OneEgg in Nicaragua

Five years ago, the city of Masatepe was fighting an uphill battle with nutrition. On a day to day basis, many children arrived to school malnourished and anemic. And, since homes depend upon a serving of rice and beans through a government program to help support their children, many endure headaches and stomach aches due to the nutritional deficits.

Recognizing this problem, OneEgg began to work with the International Teams nonprofit. Together, the OneEgg team has worked to help those in poor and oppressed communities where local leaders have risen to help develop a nutritional foundation. Led by Brandon and Hannah Weidman, the partnership gave way to a new sustainable chicken farm. In just one year, enough eggs were donated each day to feed 519 preschoolers. In the Fall of 2017, the team expanded upon the initial farm by constructing new chicken coops to host 800 one-day-old chicks to support the growth of the program.

Today, teachers testify that children eating just one egg has improved attendance and attention. Parents are working harder to make sure their children attend school where they’ll receive a healthy, balanced breakfast. Additionally, now with their bellies full and content, the children are paying better attention to the lessons without fighting headaches and stomach aches due to nutritional deficits.
